Gien was founded in 1821 by Thomas Hall, an Englishman who wanted to introduce to France the fine earthenware manufacturing techniques popular in England. Gien was soon producing high quality and decorative tableware, often emblazoned with the coats and arms of notable French families. Through the 20th Century modernisation and development continued, but always following their philosophy of developing artistic creativity and improving the quality of their wares. Today, Gien is the number one producer of the highest quality earthenware in France, and a top-selling company at international levels. The product lines are highly unique and distinguish themselves from other pottery by displaying rich, refined and varied shapes and styles.
