This pottery company was born in 1985 when Emma, looking for a cup and saucer to give to her mother as a present, discovered she was unable to find a design she liked. With the idea to create a range of earthenware that combined the strong, beautiful cream ceramic produced in Stoke-on-Trent with the colourful and homely kitchenware designs Emma loved as a child, the company took off and they soon had their own manufacturing facility in the city. Her designs were applied with the almost forgotten technique of sponge printing, where a cut sponge is used to apply simple patterns.
Fast forward to 2010 and Emma Bridgewater has gone from strength to strength and still produce all of their ceramics in and around Stoke-on-Trent, with many designs also being adapted for application onto textiles, glass, tin, stationary, melamine and lots more. Emma Bridgewater collections are now world renowned for their beauty and practicality, as well as for drawing on and continuing the tradition and expertise of pottery making in Staffordshire.
